Playa Blanca: what to know before you arrive

Playa Blanca is the southernmost resort on Lanzarote, a relaxed town of low white buildings facing the strait that separates the island from Fuerteventura, whose dunes you can see across the water on a clear day. It has grown a lot in recent decades, with hotels, villas and apartments stretching for several kilometres along the coast, but it keeps a calmer, more spacious feel than the resorts nearer the airport.

What there is in Playa Blanca

A long seafront promenade links the whole resort, from the lighthouse of Pechiguera in the west to the old watchtower of Las Coloradas in the east. On the way it passes the small town beach, the sheltered Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo, and the Marina Rubicón, with its restaurants, shops and a market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Just east of the resort, inside the protected area of Los Ajaches, are the Papagayo beaches: golden coves between cliffs, reached by a dirt track or by boat, and among the most beautiful on the island.

The ride from the airport

From the airport the taxi takes the main road south, past Yaiza and close to the vineyards of La Geria, about 33 km in around 40 minutes. Playa Blanca is spread out, so your driver takes you to your exact address, whether it is a hotel on the promenade or a villa in Montaña Roja or Las Coloradas.

Going over to Fuerteventura?

Ferries to Corralejo leave from the port of Playa Blanca several times a day, and the crossing takes around half an hour. If you are going straight to the port, choose Playa Blanca as your destination, write "Playa Blanca port" as your address and send us your ferry time by WhatsApp or email.
