Haría, Lanzarote

Haría: what to know before you arrive

Haría lies in a valley of palm trees in the north of Lanzarote, the greenest corner of the island. The local tradition says that families planted a palm for each girl and two for each boy born in the village, and today thousands of them fill the valley, which is why it is known as the valley of a thousand palms.

What there is in Haría

Haría is a quiet, traditional village with a shady main square, white houses with green doors and a craft market on Saturday mornings. On its edge is the house where César Manrique, the artist who shaped modern Lanzarote, spent his last years; it is now open as a museum, with his studio left as it was. Many visitors stay in rural houses and villas in the village and the hamlets around it, enjoying the calm and the cooler air of the hills.

The ride from the airport

The taxi goes north past Arrecife and then climbs into the hills, with a last winding stretch down into the valley. The ride takes about 45 minutes. If your accommodation is a rural house outside the village, add the name of the house or a short description when you book.

Around Haría

The north of the island is full of viewpoints and sights. The Mirador del Río looks down on La Graciosa from the top of the cliffs, and Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes are on the coast below. Órzola, where the boats leave for La Graciosa, is about fifteen minutes away.

Back to the airport

Book your pick-up about 3 hours before your flight leaves, as the road through the hills is slower than the coast.
