How to get from Lanzarote Airport to Playa Blanca

Taxi, bus or hire car: the ways to get from Lanzarote Airport to Playa Blanca, how long the trip takes and what to keep in mind.

The marina of Playa Blanca with boats and white buildings

Playa Blanca, at the southern tip of Lanzarote, is one of the most popular places to stay on the island, and also the furthest of the big resorts from the airport. Here are the ways to get there, how long they take and which one suits you best.

How far is Playa Blanca from the airport?

Playa Blanca is about 33 km from Lanzarote Airport by road. The route follows the main road south past Yaiza, near the vineyards of La Geria, and the drive usually takes around 40 minutes. Traffic is rarely a problem, but the resort itself is spread out along several kilometres of coast, so the last part depends on where your hotel or villa is.

Option 1: a taxi booked in advance

The simplest option, particularly for families and groups. Your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to your door, with luggage and child seats included and a fixed fare for the whole vehicle. See the current prices on our Playa Blanca page.

Option 2: a taxi from the rank

There is a taxi rank outside arrivals. The fare to Playa Blanca runs on the meter, with an airport supplement and higher rates at night and on holidays, and because it is the longest common journey from the airport the difference with a fixed fare can be noticeable. In high season, expect a queue.

Option 3: the bus

It is possible to reach Playa Blanca by public bus, but there is usually no direct service from the airport: you go to Arrecife first and change there. It is the cheapest option for someone travelling alone and light, but it can take well over an hour and a half and is not practical with suitcases or children.

Option 4: a hire car

If you plan to explore the island, a hire car can make sense. Bear in mind the queue at the rental desks in high season, the deposit, the fuel and parking at your accommodation. Many visitors take a taxi to the hotel and hire a car for just a couple of days later on.

Where you might be staying

  • Montaña Roja and the west: quieter, with villas and hotels near the lighthouse of Pechiguera.
  • The centre: the old part of the resort, with the town beach, shops and restaurants along the promenade.
  • Marina Rubicón: the marina, with its restaurants and a market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
  • Las Coloradas and the east: close to the road to the Papagayo beaches.

When you book, write the name of your hotel or the full address of your villa, so the driver takes you to the right entrance.

Going on to Fuerteventura?

Ferries to Corralejo, in the north of Fuerteventura, leave from the port of Playa Blanca several times a day, and the crossing takes around half an hour. If you are going straight from the airport to the ferry, choose Playa Blanca as your destination, write "Playa Blanca port" as the address and let us know your sailing time.

Getting back to the airport

From Playa Blanca, book your pick-up about two hours and forty-five minutes before your flight leaves. It gives you the journey, the check-in and a little margin. More tips for the day you land are in our guide to arriving at Lanzarote Airport.
