Órzola: what to know before you arrive

Órzola is a small fishing village at the northern tip of Lanzarote, the last stop before the sea. It is known for its seafood restaurants on the harbour and as the port for the boats to La Graciosa, the small island across the strait, where there are no paved roads and life moves at the pace of the tide.

What there is in Órzola

Just outside the village are the beaches of Caletones, small coves of white sand and turquoise water between black lava rocks. Behind them stretches the Malpaís de la Corona, a lava field left by the eruption of the Corona volcano, whose lava tube today holds two of the island's most visited sights: Jameos del Agua, transformed by César Manrique, and the Cueva de los Verdes. The Mirador del Río, high on the cliffs, is ten minutes away.

The ride from the airport

The taxi follows the east coast north for about 50 minutes, passing Arrieta and the volcanic landscape of the Malpaís. It is the longest ride on the island and one of the most scenic.

Catching the boat to La Graciosa?
