Taxi from Lanzarote Airport to Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen is the biggest and liveliest resort on Lanzarote. It grew from a small fishing village into a long ribbon of hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars that runs for several kilometres along the south-east coast, and it suits almost everyone: families, couples, groups of friends and visitors who come back year after year.

What there is in Puerto del Carmen

The heart of the resort is the seafront avenue, the Avenida de las Playas, with the long sandy beaches of Playa Grande and Los Pocillos in front of it. Further east, Matagorda is the quietest end and the closest to the airport. At the western end, Playa Chica is a small cove loved by divers and snorkellers, and beyond it the old harbour keeps its fishing boats and some of the best seafood restaurants on the island. In the evening the avenue fills with people walking along the sea.

The ride from the airport

Puerto del Carmen is only 9 km from the airport. The ride takes 10 minutes to the hotels of Matagorda and Los Pocillos and around 20 to the old town, because the last stretch follows the avenue. Some complexes are large, with more than one entrance: your driver knows them and stops at the right reception.

Good to know

• It is the best option for late arrivals: you can be at your hotel half an hour after collecting your bags.
• The beaches face south-east and are sheltered from the trade wind, so the sea is usually calm.
• Planes approach over the coast at Matagorda: if you hear them, you are close to the airport.
